Plans for Lent

My head is swimming with ideas for Lent this year.  Both girls are finally old enough to understand what it is all about.  We have come up with a great sacrifice for the family.  We are giving up the television during dinner time.  This is something that my husband always has on when he is home.  So often at dinner, the kids are busy watching the T.V that talking is minimized.  I have decided that for the season of Lent we are going to turn our eyes from the T.V, and focus on watching and listening each other.  I know this is going to be a difficult sacrifice for most of us here, but well worth it. Who knows, maybe it will stick.
Of course, we will not be eating meat on Ash Wednesday as well as on Fridays.  This is something that again we will be doing as a family.  We are planning on attending the Ash Service on Wednesday evening as well as the Stations of the Cross services every Friday evening.
Lacy, over at Catholic Icing has some wonderful craft ideas for Lent.  I have printed out an awesome calendar that the kids and I will be working on tomorrow.  I am looking forward to taking some time away from book study and learning about our Lord as we have fun together.
Tracy over at A Slice of Smith Life shares a great activity her homeschool group does to celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph.  The kids shaped bread dough in to many different religious symbols.  I loved this idea, and I have decided to give it a try this year.  I am really looking forward to this activity.  The kids are as well.
I am truly excited to begin our Lent activities on Wednesday.  I learned last week, from our Dr. Seuss activities that homeschooling is not only about sticking to the "curriculum", but rather it is enjoying the learning process as a family.  Homeschooling is also about being creative together as a family.  This is a time to focus on Jesus and what this season is all about.
