When life dishes out more than I can bear, I pray for a new start, a new beginning. That is where I am right now. My life has taken many turns in the last year. Most have been extremely challenging and some we are still trying to push through. I have learned much during this time in my life. I have learned things about my strength, my weaknesses, my faith, and my love for my family. I am still learning as I write this. I have found great comfort in reading about my faith these days. It is amazing what can be felt during a quiet session with the Lord. I have also been called to begin writing again. I think that there are times, when we fight our calling, but I have found that the only way to find peace is to accept the path God has laid out for me and follow His direction. A wonderful quote I came across the other day really made an impression on me. "God does not give us what we can handle, God helps us handle what we are given." This is so true, until I read this I struggled daily with all the difficulties that were in my life. I always thought God does not give us more than we can handle, but this idea really never sat right with me. I know how I have felt during this last year, and I know that God knows these things are not easy for anyone to handle. This was such a struggle for me, I continued to ask why, why now, why me, and why my family. I would say to Jesus, You expectations of me are wrong, I am not the person you think I am. Jesus wrong, I don't think so. He knows me better than I know myself. I was the one who was wrong. God did not give me these struggles, these struggles are just because of life, God is there to help me through these struggles so I can learn from them, and learn who I need to turn to in times of despair. Today, I have made my first step in handing my struggles over to the Lord and letting Him guide me in the direction I am intended to take.<br />
This can be a difficult task, but I am ready. Although I do not know what my future holds, I know who holds my future. This statement was in a great book I read and I think that it is such a powerful sentence. A sentence I plan on keeping close to me at all times.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09254139097847461257noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1747682677999352422.post-66255922542041696962011-06-16T08:16:00.000-07:002011-06-16T08:16:57.064-07:00Updates!Good morning all!<div><br />
</div><div>I just wanted to take a moment and say that I have been away from the blogging world for a couple of weeks now and am hoping to be back and running here shortly. There has been a lot going on around here lately, and I would like to fill you in the best I can. First, my Ash is having some difficulties again. I have been preoccupied with her health the last couple of weeks and have not really been able to focus on much else. Also, as we have to run off to Doctors, get blood draws, and some ER trips we get behind in school. I am trying to finish out our year, but have not yet been able to. Tay should be able to finish here soon, but Ash still needs some more time. She is a slower learning anyway, and all these little set backs really put her behind. I will keep you all posted on her health, but as of now we are not really sure what is going on.</div><div><br />
</div><div>Some good news, I am starting a new business with my Mom and my Aunts. We have been really working hard to get it up and running and are close to be ready. I am hoping to have a preview for you all sometime on Friday! We are pretty excited about this new adventure and I look forward to sharing!</div><div><br />
</div><div>I am also getting some new things set for my blog. I have been working on some ideas that I have had, and am still in the process of getting those up and running. I should have this all together here in the next few weeks. I sure do miss everyone and I hope to be back soon. Thank you for taking the time to read this today and have a wonderful, and blessed day!</div>Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09254139097847461257noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1747682677999352422.post-67776262738414334712011-06-04T11:57:00.000-07:002011-06-04T11:57:53.551-07:00Orange Cupcakes Yummy!<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">I love to bake! It is one of my favorite things to do. In my family I am the official baker for holidays and other special occasions. I have decided that I would like to share some of my families favorite recipes with you all. Some I have just found while searching through cookbooks, and others are family recipes from my Great Grandmother. I have to admit my Great Grandmother's recipes are my favorite just for the memories and history they bring back. I love to hear the stories my Mom and my Aunts tell of Grandma Julia in her apron looking at them with flour all over her glasses. The smiles these stories bring really touch my heart. Today's recipe comes from my Grandma Julia, and is one of my Mom's favorites. About a year ago I decided to give these delicious cupcakes a try after hearing how yummy they are. For my Mom's birthday, I made Orange Cupcakes, and she was so happy. I hope you enjoy these yummy treats as much as my family has.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Recipe: Orange Cupcakes by Grandma Julia Makes about 12 Cupcakes</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">For the Cupcakes you will need:</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">1 1/3 Cups Cake Flour</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />

</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">3/4 Cup Sugar</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">1 Egg</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">1/4 Cup Evaporated milk</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">1/4 Cup Orange Juice</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Step 1: Mix together the evaporated milk and orange juice and set aside.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Step 2: Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Step 3: Add egg</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Step 4: Add a little bit of flour to butter/sugar mixture. Alternate with the milk and orange juice mixture until all has been added.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Step 5: Line muffin tin with paper liners. Fill muffin tin with batter about 3/4 of the way full. Tip: I use a small ice cream scoop to fill my tins. It works out great, no mess and super easy.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Step 6: Bake in a 350/375 degree oven depending on how hot your oven is. I bake these cupcakes at 350 since ovens today are much hotter than when my Grandma Julia was baking. Bake these treats for about 20 minutes or until done. Insert a toothpick in the middle of the cupcakes, if it comes out clean you are ready to remove the cupcakes from the oven. I start checking my cupcakes around 16 minutes or so. Place on a wire rack to cool.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Frosting:</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">2 Tbsp. Butter Softened</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">1 Tbsp. Evaporated Milk</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">2 Tbsp. Orange Juice</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">1/2 tsp. Grated Orange Rind</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">2 Cups Powdered Sugar</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Step 1: Cream together the softened butter, evaporated milk, orange juice, and orange rind.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Step 2: Slowly add the 2 Cups of powdered sugar a little at a time until frosting comes together</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Step 3: Frost your cupcakes and enjoy.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Here is the final product:</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />

</center>This week has been one of those weeks that I was not able to get very much done. It seemed like everyday there was something we had to do. I am looking forward to a starting a great new art program that my friend Tracy from A Slice of Smith Life filled me in on. I plan on working on that today, so I may have 2 post for Art Showcase this week. Tay is busy working her way through Drawing Textbooks and she is really having fun with it. She is learning so much each week, and her drawing skill is improving as she goes. In the first picture, the drawing of the box surprised me. Tay was able to make that box look like it was open, as well as if it were a little bent. She really gave it life!<br />

Oh How Tay does not enjoy history. When I was given an opportunity to review A Kid's Guide to Drawing the Presidents of the United States, I was super excited. I thought, how great it would be for Tay to learn a little bit of United States History while doing something she loves, drawing. We were given a copy of How to Draw the Life and Times of George H. W. Bush. to review from Timberdoodle and let me just say that we can't wait to look into getting the rest of the set. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZOC7GKWIGY4/Td-_sxbjQFI/AAAAAAAAAQo/wgzMKnTuXWY/s1600/DSCN1726.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZOC7GKWIGY4/Td-_sxbjQFI/AAAAAAAAAQo/wgzMKnTuXWY/s320/DSCN1726.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
When I first received the book in the mail I was very excited. My excitement only grew when I opened the package. I could not believe the beauty of the book. It is a hard cover book, with awesome pictures inside. Each chapter discussed some important facts about George H. W. Bush, from his birth through his presidency. Each chapter also includes a picture in full color that shows what is to be drawn. After reading, there is detailed instructions on how to draw the picture. Amazing! I think this is just a great way to learn. Also included in this book is a timeline detailing the events discussed, a glossary, and a link to the Internet to further study the life of George H. W. <br />
I was however, a little surprised with the degree of difficulty of some of the drawings. Tay is pretty talented in art and she struggled a little bit. Not to the point of frustration though. She did say that she would like to take more time on the drawings and practice. I think this is a great idea as she will then read over and over about the life of this President. <br />

Well, I am a little late in getting this post on today. I apologize, but we were just in the mode with school today. I will run the Art Showcase link up through Monday this week due to my tardiness. Today, all three kids have great art work to add to the showcase. I am having so much fun watching Buddy grow in his creativity, and the girls helping him along the way. Here are the kids contributions for the week. Please enjoy, and have fun creating!<br />

Oh My! Part 2Well, after Tay's birthday on Saturday, I had to gear up to make my confirmation on Sunday at Church. Of course, as a Catholic I was actually supposed to make my Confirmation in high school, but because it wasn't pressed in our house I chose not to. After years of feeling like I should have, I finally did. As I was sitting in the Church listening to Father give his Homily about the importance of Confirmation, I was happy that I had waited. My reason for this is that at 16 or 17 years old I do not think that I would have fully grasped the importance of the sacrament of Confirmation, nor do I think that it would have been as important to me as it was on this day. I was also happy to know that all three of my children were able to watch me receive this very important Sacrament, especially Tay, who is older and at that impressionable age. It turned out to be a wonderful way to celebrate Mother's Day. <br />
<br />
After Confirmation, we headed out to dinner with all the family to enjoy a wonderful Mother's Day. The kids were very well behaved and we had a delicious meal at a local restaurant. I was so thankful to be with all my family to enjoy this day.<br />
<br />
After dinner, my Husband and had to gear up for our Disneyland trip the next day. We spent some time packing and getting everything set that we would need. The kids were very excited about leaving in the morning. We told Buddy that we would be leaving when the sun came up in the morning, so around 6:30 or so he came running in our room yelling it is morning, look out the window, it is time to go to Disneyland! This was Buddy's first trip to Disneyland, but yet his excitement was as if he had been there before. So we all piled in the car for our 4 hour drive to LA. Thankfully the kids were all very good in the car and we really didn't hit any traffic. <br />
<br />
Upon arrival the kids excitement filled the car. They could not wait to get out and get going. Off to the park we go. We headed through the gates of Disneyland and Buddy just couldn't believe what he was seeing. He was in awe. The train, the people, everything, Buddy didn't know where to look first. Onto Main Street we go and there is Minnie Mouse. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iAJlYVAIfaI/TdKNdYbZY3I/AAAAAAAAAPE/wr8iML5OWXA/s1600/DSCN1303.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-iAJlYVAIfaI/TdKNdYbZY3I/AAAAAAAAAPE/wr8iML5OWXA/s320/DSCN1303.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
Buddy was super excited to see Minnie, but not as excited to see Pluto, who we ran into next.<br />

The girls were laughing at Buddy because he just couldn't stop giggling. It was so cute! Buddy and the girls had such a great time this trip and I am so thankful for the time we spent together as a family. We were able to ride many rides, and because we went Monday-Wednesday it really was not that crowded. Of course that helps to make wait times more enjoyable. We had Breakfast with the characters two days, which was so much fun. This picture was so funny because Buddy did not know that this guy was behind him, and when he turned around this is what he did. I love this picture. This is what Disneyland is all about. Smiles!!<br />

One of Buddy's favorite characters were Chip and Dale. We were able to see both of them a couple of times and each time his little face would light up. My favorite thing about Disneyland is watching the kids. The look on their faces, the smiles, and the excitement that they show is priceless. We had a great trip, and I know Buddy's first time to Disneyland has created a wonderful memory for all of us. Here is one last photo of all 5 of us, in a toy box in front of Toy Story Mania.<br />

We took so many more pictures, but these are just some of my favorites. It was hard to choose which ones I wanted to share. As I look through the pictures my memories of those days come flooding back. When we were in Disneyland, there was art show on every night that we watched. The artist on the show was using acrylic paints to make marine life. Tay was so interested in learning how to make sea turtles that she couldn't wait to get home to try it out. Yesterday, she took out her paints and from memory began to paint the painting the artist was making on the show. Here is her finished product. She is so very proud.<br />

Oh My! Part 1Boy, we have been busy around this house! I have quite a few posts to get on, but I thought I would start with some updates. First let's start with Birthdays. Last Saturday, May 7 Tay celebrated her 11th birthday! Can you believe 11! I am still trying to soak that in. The kids usually pick a theme for the birthday's each year and this year Tay chose a 1950's theme, which made my Dad supper happy! Ha Ha! Anyway, Tay has been watching Happy Days lately and decided she wanted to have a 50's theme for her party. We had great fun picking out items for the party and decorating. We decided to have the party at my Mom's house because she has a pool, but it ended up being a little chilly for swimming. Our menu consisted of cheeseburgers, hot dogs, french fries, and onion rings. Instead of a cake this year, Tay decided she wanted cupcakes and an ice cream Sunday bar. Tay also wanted to serve flavored sodas and Shirley Temples. She had so much fun serving everyone and pretending she worked in a diner. Here are some pictures of our 50's day!<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Tay is now 11. I hope you have enjoyed the pictures of her special day. I know she had so much fun and was thankful for all who were able to come and share her birthday with her. I think back to the first time I found out I was pregnant with Tay. I was told by the doctors that it would be difficult for me to get pregnant and not to get my hopes to high. My Husband and I had only been married one month when we found out we were expecting. So many thoughts went rushing through my head, as we were both still in college, and I was not working yet. We lived in a little apartment and we were still trying to adjust to being married. All that being said, we were both so very excited about the gift we were about to receive from God. After 48 hours of tough labor, Tay was born on May 7, 2000 at 9:30 in the evening. I remember holding her for the first time and feeling like I had been holding her my whole life. As the years have gone, Tay has been my most challenging child. She is full of life and loves to be in the spotlight, which is the complete opposite of myself. I am blessed that she is my daughter and that I am able to be with her throughout the day to watch her grow, not only physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well. She is a wonderful little girl, now young lady and I am thankful to be her Mother. I love you Tay, Happy Birthday!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

I have really been out of touch the last couple of weeks. I am really trying to get caught up, but you know how that goes at times. I am enjoying taking the time to go through the kids art work to add to the art showcase. I think it is a great way to be able to keep the memories of the kids work alive in our minds. If your house is anything like mine, there is paper everywhere. Although I love the creativity of my kids, I am not sure what to do with all those papers. I am now taking pictures each week to add to the showcase. The pictures save the drawing/painting and the kids love seeing their work on the computer. It has really helped with the overload of projects around the house. If you would like to show off your kids work please link up this week and have some fun!<br />

I know that I have been MIA this last week, we have just been trying to catch up from Easter, plus the kids are not feeling that well. Tay is now getting better, but she had bronchitis, and then there is Ash, who is slowing getting worst with her respiratory issues. Buddy is fine for now, but we shall see. We had some short school days this week, but plenty of free arts and craft time. Tay love to free draw, so she was in her glory. Ash did a lot of coloring this week, but she also was able to have fun doing one of her favorite things, puzzles. Buddy loves puzzles as well. and joined in the fun with his sister. Here are our entries for the Art Showcase this week. Please feel free to link up your kids creations this week! I can't wait to check them out. <br />

Next week we will be back to some art work from out lessons, but this week was full of true creativity. When I say full creativity, I mean creativity that was not directed. The kids were able to just let loose and do what they wanted. These are my favorite times, as I can really see what the kids are thinking and feeling. I love what they come up with on their own. Please link up below if you would like to share your kids art work for the week. <br />

Blessings,<br />

What is Curiosity Files, and why are we talking about The Zombie Fire Ant? Well, let me explain. The Curiosity Files is a new unit study put together by <a href="http://www.theoldschoolhousestore.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=191_459">The Old Schoolhouse Magazine </a>or <a href="http://www.theoldschoolhousestore.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=191_459">TOS</a> for short. This study is geared towards kids 8-13 years of age, and focuses on learning about subjects that most likely are new to both the kids and us parents. The study is told by Professor Ana Lyze who states, "My research team and I specialize in the obscure, and bizarre. We search land and seas for these oddities, and make each one a star". We reviewed The Zombie Fire Ant, but there are 8 more unit studies available by TOS. These studies are as follows:<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Times; font-size: 16pt;">As you can see by the titles, The Curiosity Files really does look for obscure topics and make them come to life for the kids. The Curiosity Files are set up in E-Book format, which you can purchase and download from the <a href="http://www.theoldschoolhousestore.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=191_459">TOS </a>store. Each E-book costs about $6.95 with a few of them costing as low as $1.00. You also have the option to purchase the entire set for $46.00. Pretty amazing deal. I love the fact that these studies come in E-Book format so you can print what you need as many times as you need to.<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Times; font-size: 16pt;"><b>What is included in the E-Book?</b> Everything you need to complete the lessons is laid out in the unit study. It is great! Since it is a unit study, multiple academic subjects are covered. Some examples of these subjects are:<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><br />

There are many different activities to choose from with suggestions for older/younger learners. <o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Times; font-size: 16pt;"><b>How did we incorporate The Curiosity Files into our homeschool?</b><o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Times; font-size: 16pt;">Great question! Since the kids and I are fairly new to unit studies, we decided to add a little bit of Curiosity Files each day. We began with All You Never Wanted to Know About The Zombie Fire Ant. This is basically something at the beginning of the unit study explaining exactly what the Zombie Fire Ant is, where it came from, and what function it serves. I read this out loud to both of the girls, stopping as needed for questions and discussions. The kids were so intrigued and loved listening to the story of how the Zombie Fire Ant came into existence. After reading, there were about 20 questions to be answered in the Let’s See How Much You Learned section of the unit study. I decided to do this part out loud with the girls as well. My reason, mostly because of Ash. She is only 7 and not strong in writing. She really wanted to participate, so I had the girls work as a team and answer the questions without writing. This worked out great. We then moved on to learn about God’s creation and what happens to species when they are taken out of their intended environment. I chose one of the research activities for the kids to do together. The girls needed to find and research an animal and an insect native to the United States. They then needed to see if that animal was somehow placed into another part of the world by man, and what happened because of this. The kids had a great time doing this. This is only one great activity included in the unit study. The kids and I also did Figure it Out, some math questions about the fire ant, Fire Ant Fun, which is basically a simple lesson on following directions, a couple of grammar lessons from The Write Stuff, and a great writing assignment for my older daughter. I think the kids really enjoyed making ants on a log from the Let’s Get Creative Section. As I mentioned earlier, the Curiosity Files also includes spelling, geography, science, and history into the unit study. There are so many options for you to choose from that it is hard to list them all. <o:p></o:p></span><br />

</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Times; font-size: 16pt;"><b>Now comes the big question, what did we think of the Curiosity Files? </b> We loved it. I am so thankful that I was able to review this great unit study by TOS<o:p></o:p></span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: Times; font-size: 16pt;"><br />

<br />
Good Morning to all of you! We have another great chance to show off our kids work here at the Art Showcase. My first thought was to put this showcase on hold this Friday in observance of Good Friday, but then Tay was a little upset with this decision. I have decided to go ahead and have Art Showcase as usual. This week Tay's work comes from Drawing Textbook again. Ash was focusing on words that start with J this week and she drew a picture of Jesus with a bright light around his head. Buddy, again was super busy working with play dough this week and stickers, as I previously talked about in my Attack of the Stickers post. Here are this weeks creations! Enjoy.<br />

We are all so excited, and a little tired I might add. My Mom and I finally finished yesterday. Yeah!! We still have a room upstairs that needs organizing, but other than hanging a few things on the wall, the school room is complete! I can't tell you what relief I feel. I get very stressed out when things are out of sorts, and between cleaning out rooms, adding the school room, and our backyard work, you could say that I have been a little more than stressed out. I am down to the last room, and since it is upstairs I don't have to look at it for most of the day. I was able to move the cubby system from upstairs into the new school room, this allowed me the capability to bring all the reading books downstairs and organize them in the cubbies. I love this concept! It was always a challenge to bring books downstairs for reading time, and then somehow nobody knew how to bring them back up during cleaning up time. Now there is no excuse. Everything has a place. I also was able to use the cubbies to store all of my supplies. All of our school stuff is now in one room. I am hoping this makes for less mess in the kitchen area as well as being more efficient during lesson time. I also moved the big craft table from the playroom into the school room. I wanted to give Buddy a place to work that was nice and big so he can spread out. I will also use this table during craft time for all the kids as there is enough room for all 3 of them. The girls each have their own desks in the middle of the room. This way they can have their own space, but be able to use any of the resources on the wall. I am planning on getting one more write off board to put on the wall by the big map. We don't use the board very often, but there are times that it is helpful, especially during math lessons. I can't wait to get started in our new room. There is a lot to be said for the environment in which you learn. My hope is that the kids will love the new room as much as I do and have a good attitude during our lessons. I know, I know that is a lot to ask, but I have faith. HaHa! Below are pictures of our new room!<br />
<br />
Picture 1: This is looking in from the door, the table in the back is Buddy's work space. I am planning on hanging the board on the wall and changing the look as we change themes. <br />

Picture 3 is showing the shelving unit behind the doors. I use this to store books that correspond with the different grade levels. These are items I use, just not everyday. I also store Tay's art bucket on this shelf. This way she has easy access to it and will be able to grab what she needs. In the pull out buckets from Ikea, which I love, I store math manipulative, pattern blocks, and such. I love having this all in one place.<br />

<br />
Picture 4 is showing the other side of the cubby system. This side stores all the kids reading books. On the bottom in the blue bins are Buddy's books. He can pull a bucket out and explore. In the cabinets I am storing things I don't want the kids to get to. Mostly paper, scissors, and office type supplies. I figure out of site, out of mind. We will see. <br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div>Picture 6 is showing Buddy's work space. He will be able to still be apart of the school day, but not be so disruptive to the girls during the lesson. He has his own space, with his own learning tools. I think this will be a big help for us!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dPVfxgrXbOs/TbBQdoj0DwI/AAAAAAAAAMw/UTnAJ8CAEYY/s1600/DSCN0939.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-dPVfxgrXbOs/TbBQdoj0DwI/AAAAAAAAAMw/UTnAJ8CAEYY/s320/DSCN0939.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I still am planning on adding to the walls. I have much more to hang, but for the most part we are done. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Since we are doing Astronomy for science most of the wall decorations on the cubby wall is space. I plan on changing all this out as we move through the curriculum. Thank you for taking the time to check out our new room. I am so very happy to finally be finished. Now we need to get to learning!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

<br />
I have been a bit absent lately due to spring cleaning around the house, but I am hoping to be back to blogging next week. The other day, I bought Buddy a new sticker book for Church. He loves sticker books. The funny thing is he actually plays with the stickers rather than putting them on the pages in the book. This book, is a Star Wars Lego book and he took it out of his Church bag on Monday morning. Here is what happens when he plays stickers. I had to laugh!<br />

Blessings to all of you and Happy Holy Week!<br />

We are really having fun with Drawing Textbook. Tay is learning a lot about shading and how to draw with perspective. The spinach cans on her second drawing are meant to look like they are behind each other. This concept took some work, but after some time she was able to get it. She was very proud of herself. <br />

<br />
Hello everyone,<br />
<br />
This week was a little crazy as we had a lot of things going on. I had the kids do free art this week. Actually this is Tay's favorite time, free art. She likes to let her creative side shine. Tay is one who would rather create on her own, instead of being directed. Ash is usually the opposite, she likes to be given an idea and then create from there. This week was a little different. Ash was able to have a play date today with a friend who she has not been able to see since she got sick on New Years Eve. She was so very excited and was able to create her drawing right away. Such a great day! Please take a look at our gallery for the week and link up if you would like to add your kids creations. Have fun and enjoy!<br />
<br />
Tay's drawing "Somewhere Over The Rainbow":<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rAdk_Jx7QHk/TZ6SOgeUigI/AAAAAAAAALs/6AYE3q1uHgc/s1600/DSCN0924.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-rAdk_Jx7QHk/TZ6SOgeUigI/AAAAAAAAALs/6AYE3q1uHgc/s320/DSCN0924.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
Ash's drawing of her play day with her BFF (notice BFF in the middle):<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cwoWob-Zkes/TZ6SvgNcmfI/AAAAAAAAAL0/GpIxJwAr7-c/s1600/DSCN0925.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-cwoWob-Zkes/TZ6SvgNcmfI/AAAAAAAAAL0/GpIxJwAr7-c/s320/DSCN0925.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
Buddy was not really into drawing this week, he was more into doing puzzles, so here is one he did with some help:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0QaHt8rtw8Q/TZ6SUwLmUZI/AAAAAAAAALw/dNrcn-JRa3E/s1600/DSCN0922.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0QaHt8rtw8Q/TZ6SUwLmUZI/AAAAAAAAALw/dNrcn-JRa3E/s320/DSCN0922.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />
